Franz Simon
Mittenwald (Germany), 1810 - 1820
Body made of plain maple
Table made of Spruce
Scale length: 625 mm
Width at nut: 43 mm
This is one of my favorite instruments, because it's exceptionally lightweight with a brilliant sound.
Franz Simon lived in Mittenwald - near the German/Austrian border. Mittenwald has been a German center of guitar and violin making for a few hundred years, and the Simon family were luthiers over many generations. At the museum for stringed instruments in Mittenwald are two examples of guitars from the Simon family.
